Spencer House Seniors Centre has been adapting how we support seniors in our community during the pandemic. Although the drop-in centre is not open, we are keeping our Spencer House friends connected through peer-to-peer phone trees, especially important to keep friends connected without iphones or internet. In an effort to support seniors shelter in place, and without our meal program operating at the Centre, we are sending out food hampers to deserving seniors every two weeks, including frozen homemade meals from our kitchen.
Spencer House is a second home to many seniors in the HRM. In response to the needs of our friends, we are keeping folks connected during the pandemic. We are offering frozen meals of Spencer House favourites to those who would otherwise come to Spencer House for their meals. These meals are essential for those who have barriers to cooking at home. With every food hamper delivered, we are offering compassion and hope, as well reminding seniors that they are not alone.
The mission of Spencer House Seniors Centre is to encourage healthy independent lifestyles through the promotion of health and referral services, education and social programs, and to empower seniors of the Halifax Regional Municipality to contribute to their own well-being and to the community.
