GIVE65 is a program of the Home Instead Foundation of Canada.
The aging landscape in Canada is changing dramatically. According to StatsCanada, the percentage of aging adults (16.9 per cent) now exceeds the share of children (16.6 per cent). This pattern indicates that in the year 2061, there could be 12 million aging adults living in Canada and only 8 million children. Furthermore, one in nine aging adults is living in poverty and every day 1,000 people are turning 65 years old in Canada. As aging adults are leaving the work force, drawing a pension and using more health care, the smaller workforce is unable to contribute enough to the income tax to increase these services for the growing population. This is where the philanthropic sector has the opportunity to step up and help aging adults age with dignity and respect. There is a tremendous need to increase the capacity of charitable programs and services that create hope for aging adults.
In 2017, the Home Instead Foundation of Canada was approved by the Canada Revenue Agency. We are proud to present GIVE65, in collaboration with generous sponsors sharing our mission, to help aging adults in need.
Since its founding in 2003, the Home Instead Foundation has been helping less fortunate and vulnerable aging adults. To date, the Foundation has awarded more than $4 million to charitable organizations serving aging adults throughout North America. The mission of the Foundation is to enhance the lives of aging adults and those who care for them.
Paul and I started the Foundation to help those aging adults who could not afford the services of the Home Instead network. Over the years, we have had the great honor to learn about many nonprofit programs throughout North America that are providing services essential to quality of life. The need is great. I think GIVE65 is a rallying cry for all of us - the public and private sector - to come together and create hope for our aging adults in need."
